The Curse & Blood Dependency: The Ancestors of the Old Valorêin were cursed by the Sherok after their rebellion, turning them into vampiric-like beings. Their physiology was altered to: Require blood as their primary sustenance (beginning at age seventeen). Become completely dependent on blood by adulthood, with alcohol as the only alternative. Suffer psionic degradation if deprived of blood, leading to: Delirium Insanity Rampancy – The final, irreversible state of The Curse.
The Curse
The curse was placed on the Elder Valorêin when they rebelled against the Sherok. Ravaging their society, and killing hundreds of billions of Sherok. The Sherok were driven into exile and the Elder Valorêin were enslaved by the Malisik and The Malismorâ. They redeemed themselves, but The Curse was upon them. The Curse turns adult Valorêin blood hungering "Vampiric Zombies". After reaching maturity they begin to need blood. They start early around age seventeen incorporating it into their diet. As they mature and become adults it become less and less of a substitution and becomes the only thing that they can consume other than alcohol. The only cure for the Curse is The Ûlêum or being bound or turned into Lifemates.
Shemêin
These vile beings are what happens to Valorêin that accept the curse. They give into "the creature" as it is referred to by most Valorêin. They become vampires, never feeling The Call only the darkness of Gozog'nok.
The Binding
The Binding is a ritual that binds the minds and souls of two individuals of a Valorik Species or Near-Valorik Species. The members must be of opposite gender, male and female. They become one in mind and soul, but still separate in consciousness. Their souls are connected to one another via what is called The Soul-Tether, it keeps them close to each other. Never willing to wonder far from one another, and in death they remain connected, even if one soul remains in Yedistren. The other will remain within the Lethurêan Star they died near. The surviving mate cannot leave the solar system the other died in or they will both Transcend (Lethurêa).
The Ûlêum
The Ûlêum, is a practice in which the two mates have intense consensual sexual intercourse. This only works between Valorik Species and is considered taboo and archaic.
