Deity (Galaxa)

Deities in Galaxa are immortal entities sustained and empowered by Faith, the primordial force generated through the deep convictions of mortals and spirits. Unlike True Divines—who are literal children of the Divine ParentsFaith-Powered Deities are beings elevated through worship, not through the sacred Rights of Divine Creation.

While revered and capable of miracles, Deities are distinct from True Divines. They are not true gods or goddesses by cosmic right, but rather immortals exalted through belief.

Nature of Deities

Deities are immortals who have already been judged by the Divine Parents and found neither worthy of ascension to Divinity nor deserving of eternal imprisonment. Instead, they are permitted to walk among mortals, appearing as mortals themselves, though vastly superior in durability and capability.

Key traits include:

  • Sustained by Faith: Their power, longevity, and ability to perform miracles derive from the Faith directed at them.
  • Resilient Immortality: If their mortal form is destroyed, it reforms after time.
  • Bound by Divine Law: Deities cannot create new spirits, souls, or lifeforms.

They are often called gods and goddesses by mortals, but true gods are Divines, not Deities.

Origins and Manifestation

There are two known paths by which Deities arise:

  • Ascension through Worship – Mortals or spirits who receive enough concentrated Faith ascend into Deityhood, gaining miraculous abilities.
  • Manifestation through Collective Belief – Entirely new entities can be created if the Faith of a people collectively imagines them into existence, as with Silleta.

Unlike natural cosmic forces, Deities are entirely products of perception, thriving or declining alongside the Faith of their worshippers.

Powers and Limitations

Deities possess extraordinary capabilities:

  • Miracles and Curses: Healing the blind, controlling elements, delivering blessings or curses.
  • Prophecy and Dreams: Deities can influence mortals through visions, omens, and prophetic dreams.

However, by the will of Divine Law, Deities are forbidden from:

  • **Direct Manifestation** – They cannot appear corporeally to their worshippers outside dreams, visions, or divine influence.
  • **Forced Worship** – Faith must be given freely; it cannot be stolen or coerced.
  • **Creation of Life** – Only the Divine Parents possess the Rights of Divine Creation.

Faith Dependency and Decline

A Deity’s existence is inherently unstable. Their power is tied to the living Faith of their worshippers:

  • Weakening: If faith diminishes, their communion becomes faint and their miracles fade.
  • Loss of Power: Prolonged loss reduces them to mere immortals.
  • Rebound Possible: If belief in the Deity is reignited, they may regain their divine power.

Deities cannot be destroyed—only altered. If a Deity falls, they simply revert to an immortal spirit.

Domains and Overlap

While most Deities are associated with specific domains (e.g., war, mercy, stars), it is possible for:

  • Generalized Deities to exist, embodying broader ideals.
  • Overlap between Deities to occur. When mortals believe two Deities perform the same function or are one in the same, both receive equal shares of Faith, coexisting without merging.

Malevolent Entities and Fear-Faith

Fear and hatred can generate their own monstrous manifestations:

  • Negative Faith does not transform Deities into demons or dark gods.
  • Instead, separate entities—such as Silleta—are birthed by terror-driven Faith.
  • These beings are often unpredictable, powerful, and disconnected from the traditional Deity structure.

True Divines vs Faith-Powered Deities

Aspect True Divines Faith-Powered Deities
Origin Born of Divine Parents Created by mortal/spirit belief
Power Source Inherent; Divine Creation Rights Sustained by Faith
Fate After Faith Loss Retain Divinity Revert to immortal spirit
Ability to Create Life Yes (Rights of Creation) No
Direct Interaction Rare but possible (by Divine Law) Only through visions, dreams

Modern Worship and Faith Structures

Deities in Galaxa do not require structured temples or churches to sustain themselves.

  • Personal devotion, folk traditions, secret cults—all can maintain a Deity.
  • Nevertheless, many civilizations build formal temples, priesthoods, and rituals to venerate their chosen gods.
