Fair Use Policy
Overview
The Continuum Universes Wiki exists to preserve and showcase the original creative works, lore, and universes developed by the Jensen Saga Studio and its contributors. This wiki is a repository of original intellectual property, not a general-purpose fandom archive or derivative work hub.
We recognize that some limited, educational, or transformative uses of copyrighted material may qualify as Fair Use under U.S. copyright law. However, Fair Use is **not** a blanket excuse to copy, reproduce, or repost content you do not own. This policy exists to maintain respect for creators and to prevent abuse of Fair Use claims.
What Fair Use Means Here
Fair Use applies narrowly and only under the following conditions:
- Educational or Analytical Use: Quoting or referencing portions of external media solely to analyze or compare it to Continuum Universes content.
- Parody or Commentary: Creating satirical or transformative commentary that clearly does not replace or compete with the original work.
- Documentation or Reference: Quoting small excerpts (with citation) from academic, mythological, or cultural sources when relevant to worldbuilding context.
In all cases:
- The use must be transformative, adding original commentary or creative value.
- The use must be limited—only the minimum necessary to illustrate the point.
- The use must not harm the market value or substitute for the original source.
What Fair Use Is NOT
The following are not considered fair use on the Continuum Universes Wiki:
- Uploading or reposting copyrighted art, text, or data from other creators—even “for reference.”
- Copying entire sections of lore or concepts from existing franchises (e.g. Star Wars, Warhammer, Tolkien, etc.) and presenting them as part of the Continuum.
- Using copyrighted media (images, screenshots, music) for decoration, placeholders, or “aesthetic.”
- Importing fanworks or derivative stories from outside the Continuum without explicit permission from the original author.
Even if something is found freely on the internet, that does not make it public domain or fair use. Respect the work of others as you expect yours to be respected.
Use of External Media
Images, audio, video, and text uploaded to this wiki must meet one of the following criteria:
- Original: Created by a contributor of Continuum Universes.
- Licensed: Used under Creative Commons, GPL, or equivalent license, with full attribution.
- Public Domain: Confirmed to be legally unrestricted for use and reproduction.
- Permission Granted: The uploader has obtained explicit, documented consent from the rights holder.
Unverified or misattributed media will be removed immediately.
Transformative Derivatives within the Continuum
Fans and contributors may create derivative entries within the Continuum (e.g. fan species, planets, stories) under the following conditions:
- The work must be inspired by, not copied from, the core Continuum lore.
- The entry must be clearly labeled as a fan contribution or derivative expansion.
- The contributor grants Continuum Universes a non-exclusive right to host, edit, and display the work within the wiki.
These rules protect both the community’s freedom to create and the Founders’ rights to their intellectual property.
Enforcement
Administrators reserve the right to:
- Remove or edit any content violating this policy.
- Request proof of license or permission for uploaded works.
- Revoke editing privileges from repeat offenders.
- Report copyright violations when appropriate.
Guiding Principle
Creativity thrives under respect. The Continuum is built from imagination, discipline, and reverence for the act of creation itself. Abuse of Fair Use diminishes that effort. When in doubt—create your own.
