The Dakmonian are the dominant-pigment subpopulation of the Yalaerin, descended from the majority phenotype of pre-Regenesis Yalae Prime. Possessing the dark-skin dominant allele, Dakmonians once constituted the most widespread Yalaerin lineage before cultural aesthetics, reproductive policies, and genetic ideology turned against them. Through centuries of persecution—exclusion, segregation, controlled breeding, and erasure—Dakmonians became an oppressed caste within the Yalaerin Empire. Beyond imperial borders, however, they form vibrant, Magicka-strong diaspora communities.
Biology
Dakmonian biology reflects the classical Yalaerin template: enlarged cranium, narrow eyes, slit ears, and strong Magicka neural lattices. Their pigmentation arises from the dominant Xᴰ allele and the dark-only Yᴰ chromosome.
Pigmentation Genetics
Dakmonian color inheritance is governed by a highly asymmetric allele system:
- Xᴰ = dark-skin dominant
- Xᴾ = pale-skin recessive
- Yᴰ = dark-skin only
This results in:
- All Dakmonian males are dark-skinned, as they inherit Yᴰ.
- Dakmonian females may carry Xᴾ, making them genetically valuable yet culturally stigmatized under aesthetic-based breeding regimes.
The genetic distribution that once ensured Dakmonian majority status became weaponized as Laymonian and later High Yalaerin preference displaced them.
History
Pre-Contact Majority
Before space exploration and cultural contamination, Dakmonians formed the core demographic of Yalae Prime. Their pigment protected them from intense solar reflection across the planet’s crystal-sand plateaus.
The Nordite Catalyst
Everything shifted after first contact with the pale-skinned Nordite humans. Aesthetic fascination among Yalaerin males triggered a species-wide shift toward pale preferences, driving:
- rejection of dark-skinned females
- reduced Dakmonian mating opportunities
- cultural devaluation of Dakmonian aesthetics
The pigment allele distribution that once shaped Yalaerin continuity became the foundation of Dakmonian marginalization.
Segregation Era
As the aesthetic preference deepened, the empire instituted increasingly oppressive systems:
- segregation of Dakmonian males from pale-allele females
- restrictions on reproductive eligibility
- forced relocation into lower-status urban districts
- strategic underfunding of Magicka academies in Dakmonian regions
Dakmonians survived primarily through tight-knit clan structures and ancestral Magicka rites.
Collapse Under the Regenesis
When the Regenesis reorganized Yalaerin biology, Dakmonians effectively lost genetic and cultural representation. The resulting High Yalaerin caste viewed Dakmonian ancestry as incompatible with the “refined” future of Yalaerin evolution.
Oppression and Outlawed Bloodlines
The harshest result of High Yalaerin doctrine is the classification of High Yalaerin + Dakmonian offspring as:
- Nokadakmonian — “Purity fettered by Darkness.”
Under imperial law, these individuals are executed on sight in core Yalaerin territory.
Even Dakmonians without hybrid ancestry are monitored and restricted through de facto purity laws.
Diaspora
Outside the empire, Dakmonians thrive.
In Lekaran protectorates, Nordite colonies, and Telerian trade hubs, Dakmonians:
- achieve high Magicka positions
- preserve outlawed ancestral rites
- form multi-lineage families
- maintain cultural and linguistic traditions erased on Yalae Prime
Diaspora Dakmonians often act as diplomats, historians, and Magicka priests, safeguarding cultural memory.
Culture
Dakmonian culture is built on endurance. After centuries of repression, they developed strong communal identity structured around:
- ancestral unity
- oral histories
- ritualistic Magicka practices
- clan-based leadership
- preservation of pre-Regenesis myth cycles
Their spirituality differs from High Yalaerin technomantic Magicka, favoring natural psionic resonance and ritual amplification.
Relations with Other Yalaerin
Dakmonians maintain complex relationships with other Yalaerin groups:
- With the Laymonian, tensions remain, but shared marginalization created occasional alliances.
- With High Yalaerin, relations are adversarial; High Yalaerin ideology frames Dakmonians as genetically problematic.
Dakmonian culture persists despite systemic efforts to erase it.
