The Laymonian are the pale-skinned, recessive-allele lineage of the Yalaerin, historically prized for their rare pigmentation and deeply intertwined with Yalaerin aesthetic and reproductive cultures. The Laymonian phenotype became the template upon which the High Yalaerin were designed, elevating their status at one point while simultaneously subjecting them to rigid breeding expectations and restrictive social control.

Though genetically recessive, Laymonians shaped Yalaerin history by being at the center of powerful cultural obsessions—obsessions that eventually fractured the species and contributed to the need for the Regenesis.

Biology

Laymonians share all classical Yalaerin biological features: enlarged craniums, slit ears, narrow eyes, and high Magicka aptitude. Their defining characteristic is the recessive Xᴾ allele, responsible for their pale skin.

Pigmentation Genetics

Laymonian pigmentation emerges only in:

  • Xᴾ/Xᴾ females
  • Xᴾ/Yᴰ males cannot occur, as the Yᴰ chromosome always expresses dark pigmentation

This genetic bottleneck made pale males biologically impossible, increasing the mystique and social value of pale females while reinforcing patriarchal aesthetic dominance.

Neural Patterns

Laymonians often express neural patterns associated with:

  • fine psionic control
  • emotional regulation
  • Magicka precision

These traits contributed to their desirability in controlled breeding programs.

History

The Rise of Pale Aesthetics

Laymonians were not historically dominant. Their rise began after Yalaerin contact with pale-skinned Nordite humans. The encounter produced a species-wide shift in male aesthetic preference toward paleness.

This triggered:

  • refusal of males to reproduce with dark-skinned women
  • intense demand for Laymonian females
  • exclusion of Dakmonian women
  • cultural elevation of pale skin to a near-religious ideal

Laymonian women found themselves transformed into symbols of beauty and purity, yet paradoxically restricted in autonomy.

Reproductive Exploitation

The rarity of the Xᴾ allele made Laymonian women the primary targets of controlled reproductive programs. They were selectively paired with males believed to carry hidden pale alleles to increase the chances of producing daughters with the desirable phenotype.

This created:

  • rigid breeding schedules
  • restricted partner selection
  • reproductive oversight by eugenic councils
  • limited movement and social freedom

While reverenced externally, Laymonian women were often denied basic self-determination.

Precursor to the Regenesis

Dissatisfaction with rigid caste structures, genetic imbalances, and growing instability between Dakmonian and Laymonian populations paved the way for the Regenesis.

Laymonian aesthetics heavily shaped the design of the High Yalaerin, whose pale-toned phenotype was engineered from Laymonian templates—though refined, stabilized, and stripped of the recessive bottleneck.

Cultural Role

Laymonians historically stood at the center of Yalaerin art, religion, and sexual politics.

Idealization and Objectification

Pale skin became conflated with:

  • purity
  • transcendence
  • Magicka clarity
  • spiritual symbolism

Laymonian females appeared in countless religious murals, erotic statuary, state decorations, and prophecy cycles.

Yet idealization masked deep systemic disempowerment.

Relationship with Dakmonians

Laymonians, despite both being marginalized in different ways, shared a complicated relationship with Dakmonian Yalaerin:

  • both were restricted by imperial breeding systems
  • both suffered under aesthetic-driven hierarchy
  • inter-lineage empathy formed in diaspora regions

However, Yalaerin propaganda often pitted the groups against each other.

Laymonians Under High Yalaerin Rule

The emergence of the High Yalaerin reduced Laymonian status dramatically. Their phenotype, once the desired ideal, became the raw material for the “perfected” High Yalaerin form.

Laymonians became:

  • culturally overshadowed
  • politically sidelined
  • biologically redundant under recessive erasure
  • symbolically preserved but practically subordinate

Their historical pedestal turned into an afterthought once pale aesthetics were artificially stabilized.

Diaspora Laymonians

Outside the empire, Laymonians reclaim autonomy and cultural identity, forming communities that blend:

  • ancestral pale-line traditions
  • egalitarian partnerships
  • Magicka expression unbound by breeding laws

In Nordite and Lekaran territories, Laymonians often serve as mediators due to their nuanced understanding of Yalaerin political and aesthetic ideologies.
