The One War was Lethurîa’s longest and most devastating war, fought across Yedistren for the span of one billion years. During this era, the Malisik waged a relentless campaign against the Free Species in a struggle framed as “dominance,” but fueled in truth by Malis’ desire for Vital Essence harvested through suffering and death. Though the Free Species perished in sextillions, the Malisik also died in numbers beyond meaningful accounting, and the war produced no lasting victor—only an ever-deepening wound in the history of Yedistren.
Background
The One War emerged from the Malisik’s existential purpose: to enact slaughter at a scale sufficient to feed Malis’ spiritual hunger. While the conflict often resembled conventional struggles for territory, resources, and power, its deeper function was sacrificial—turning an entire world into a vast engine of death and terror.
As the war dragged on through ages, the Free Species splintered, adapted, and reformed countless times. Alliances rose and fell; civilizations advanced and collapsed; strategies shifted from brutal conquest to psychological and spiritual warfare as the Malisik sought not merely to win, but to maximize suffering.
The War
Across its billion-year span, the One War unfolded as an unbroken succession of campaigns, counter-campaigns, extinctions, resurgences, and total collapses.
The Malisik offensive: The Malisik pursued perpetual escalation, ensuring the war did not burn out into stable rule or simple annihilation. Their intent was sustained bloodshed rather than governance.
The Free Species resistance: The Free Species fought to survive, preserve lineages, defend sacred places, and prevent Yedistren from becoming an eternal feeding ground for Malis.
The Turning Point: The Chosen
The war’s decisive shift began when Mîra Ûrlek Teslek and Merik Teslek were bound and became the Chosen Hero and Heroine. They set out to ascend to Deityhood, and—after enduring the Trials of the Chosen—completed their ascension.
With divine authority and purpose, they forged a United Free Species and led a coordinated campaign aimed not at temporary victory, but at ending the Malisik war-machine at its prophetic center.
Aftermath and legacy
The One War concluded only when the Chosen led the United Free Species to slay The Malismorâ, breaking the Malisik’s guiding prophetic force and bringing peace to Yedistren after a billion years of uninterrupted conflict.
The legacy of the One War remains foundational to Lethurîa’s understanding of warfare, spirituality, and survival:
- Entire cultures and species mythologies are shaped by the war’s eras.
- Military traditions, taboos, and doctrines trace back to lessons learned across repeated near-extinction cycles.
- The war stands as the ultimate example of conflict waged for metaphysical consumption rather than political end-states.
