The Free Species are a classification of sentient, often mortal species within Lethurîa that remain spiritually independent of the corruptive dominion of Malis. They are marked by their rejection of infernal servitude to Malis and their sovereignty. All were conceived as children of the Mother and Father, birthed into existence to fulfill their divine purpose and uphold Divine Law.

Though some Free Species have warred amongst themselves, they are generally united in their rejection of Malis and his followers. Several formerly corrupted peoples, such as the Zekerin, have earned redemption and are recognized as Free Species once more.

Defining Traits

  • Spiritual Allegiance: All Free Species are spiritually affiliated with the noble spirit tribes of Kiitikon, Volamin, Haavolin, or Elesîa. They stand in opposition to those corrupted or claimed by Malis.
  • Freedom Through Redemption: Some species, such as the Zekerin, once fell under Malis's influence but have since been redeemed and reclaimed their spiritual autonomy.
  • Mortal Majority: Most Free Species are mortal, but a number of fringe immortals and redeemed divine beings are also counted among them.
  • Cultural Sovereignty: Free Species evolve culturally and philosophically without the spiritual governance of Malis. Their beliefs, rituals, and societal structures are uniquely their own, though many still uphold ancient divine traditions.

Relationship with the Divine Family

Free Species are regarded with love and dignity by the Divine Family. They are considered among the children of the Mother and Father, and while all of their offspring may be born with divine potential, only those who remain spiritually free of corruption retain the title of “Free.”

They are encouraged by the Divine Family to grow, flourish, and ascend, often serving as champions, chosen ones, or guardians in the ever-unfolding struggle against the legions of Malis.

Culture and Religion

Though Free Species share a divine origin, they have diverged vastly in culture and belief across the epochs. During the Second Eon, their divergence became especially notable, though most maintained the original religion of the Sherok. Over time, localized ceremonies and tribal customs emerged, reflecting each species’ worldview while preserving a connection to the original faith.

Participation in divine rituals remains common among Free Species, though their expressions of worship vary by planet, kingdom, or tribe. Despite this diversity, the core reverence for the Divine Parents remains intact across nearly all Free cultures.

Historical Conflicts

  • After the The First War (Lethurîa), some Free Species clashed among themselves in lingering tribal or political disputes.
  • During the Valorîin Rebellion, nearly all Free Species united under a singular cause, setting aside their grudges to combat the encroaching darkness.
  • The beginning of the One War (Lethurîa) marked a significant turning point where Free Species acted in almost unanimous defiance of Malis.

Gray Zones and Corruption

Not all corruption results in the immediate loss of "Free" status. Entire species rarely fall at once—rather, specific planetary communities, rogue sects, fringe religions, and deviant cultures may slide into Malis's grasp. Examples include:

  • Cults and heresies formed within otherwise Free species.
  • The Grand Tîran Empire, whose internal corruption serves as a cautionary tale.
  • Villages or provinces that willingly forsake Divine Law for forbidden power.

Trivia

  • Free Species often retain generational memories of divine encounters, passed down through oral traditions or crystal-encoded scripture.
  • The title "Free" is not an official legal designation, but rather a spiritual and cultural one recognized across all faithful societies of Lethurîa.
  • Many Free Species refer to the corrupted races as the "Chained" or "Fallen," though this is considered derogatory by some interspecies councils.
  • Several Free Species have developed psionic or biological defenses specifically to resist the influence of Malis.
