High Sherok
The High Sherok, also known as "The First Children," are a powerful variant of the Sherok species, direct descendants of the Elder Sherok, who are also referred to as the First-Flames. Born from the loins of these Elder Sherok, the High Sherok possess celestial power, but not as great as their parents. and have played pivotal roles in shaping the history of Yedistren. Unlike their lesser counterparts (referred to simply as "Sherok"), the High Sherok were not under the heavy control and subjugation that characterized the rule of the First-Flames.
The Golden Age
The First-Flames ruled through the Council of the First Hundred, a benevolent dictatorship. Despite their wisdom, their rule became oppressive over time. The High Sherok, as chosen heirs, were expected to inherit this rule upon their ascension. However, due to the functional immortality of the First-Flames, succession never came. This led to:
- Hedonism and indulgence among the High Sherok.
- Apathy towards ordinary Sherok, whom they considered beneath them.
- Neglecting the rising power of the High Valorèin, allowing resentment to fester.
The Laws
The First-Flames' Sacred Mandate was intended to preserve order but bred unrest. Notably, the Cursing of the Elder Valorèin remains their most infamous act, one they deeply regret. The lack of punishment of the High Sherok's hedonistic ways bred contempt within the Elder Valorèin, finding it unjust.
