Sulfur Dioxide
Overview
Sulfur Dioxide is a pungent, corrosive oxide present in Venus-Like Atmosphere atmospheres and volcanically active worlds. Its presence signifies tectonic youth and sulfuric activity — a common precursor to acid rain and atmospheric alchemy in divine terraforming operations.
Properties
SO₂ is a bent molecule that easily dissolves in water, forming sulfurous acid (H₂SO₃). It absorbs strongly in the ultraviolet spectrum, producing the yellow haze characteristic of sulfuric skies. At psionic flux thresholds, SO₂ can transmute into radiant Essence Vapor when exposed to divine catalysts.
Uses and Occurrences
Used as a sterilizing and preserving agent, and in ancient Continuum rites of purification. SO₂ remains a core reagent for synthetic acid-sphere generation in Venus-Like Atmosphere terraforming projects.
