The Malis Atmosphere is a psionically and metaphysically corrupted air system that envelopes the prison-world of Gozog'nok. It is the vaporized will of the fallen divinity Malis, whose body was sealed there after the War of Breath. Where once it was air, now it is a **miasma of divine entropy** — a poison to gods, mortals, and even ideas.

Origin

After the sundering of Lethurêa, the being known as Malis was exiled beyond the light, entombed within Gozog'nok beneath oceans of molten iron. His decaying essence sublimated into vapor, permeating the upper layers of the planet’s crust. Over aeons, this vapor escaped into the sky — transmuting the atmosphere into an extension of his will: a consciousness of corruption, seeking only unmaking. Thus was born the Malis Atmosphere — a theology made chemical.

Composition and Behavior

The gaseous mixture’s physical properties are deceptively terrestrial: primarily Nitrogen and Oxygen bound by dense bands of Carbon Dioxide and Methane. However, the true volatility lies in the CEM, a vapor-phase psionic toxin that erodes informational integrity. Atoms in its presence lose definition; thoughts unravel before words form. Trace Contradictium introduces spatial paradoxes, causing gravitational inversions and localized reversals of causality.

Environmental Characteristics

  • **Pressure:** 1.7 atm — heavy, oppressive.
  • **Temperature:** 310–330 K — perpetual fever.
  • **Visuals:** Black-red haze; motes of ember light swirl within shadow columns.
  • **Auditory:** The wind hums in descending tones — interpreted by pilgrims as “the heart of the god still beating.”
  • **Tactile:** Skin contact causes necrosis of organic tissue within minutes.

Phenomena

  • **Soul Bleed:** Prolonged exposure extracts psychic residue from sentient beings, feeding the ambient CEM concentration.
  • **Reverse Lightning:** Negative energy arcs upward from the surface, forming “dark coronas.”
  • **The Null Dawn:** Every few cycles, the sky brightens to black fire — the god’s pulse echoing through his prison.

Interactions

The Malis Atmosphere is hostile to all known biologies. Artificial probes experience spontaneous data corruption within seconds of entry. Divine-class entities exposed to it lose coherence, their conceptual forms “unwritten.” Yet, the atmosphere remains **stable** — self-contained and paradoxically in balance, as though the imprisoned Malis still dreams of order through ruin.

Exotheological Significance

Scholars of the Continuum Universes identify the Malis Atmosphere as evidence that divinity decomposes into measurable fields. The gas is not worshipped but feared — an *anti-sacrament* of the fallen. Lethurêan monks record that each molecule of CEM still whispers, “I am not undone.”
