Helium

From Continuum Universes Wiki

Overview

Helium is the second lightest element and a noble gas, known for its complete chemical inertness and exceptional stability. In the Continuum, helium plays a crucial role in both mundane and psionic technologies, serving as an insulator for divine reactors and quantum cryogenic systems.

Properties

Helium resists chemical bonding under all known pressures and temperatures. It liquefies only near absolute zero and remains superfluid under psionic excitation, making it ideal for zero-point containment in divine laboratories.

Uses and Occurrences

Used as a buffer gas in Heliox and Trimix atmospheres, in superconductive cooling systems, and in the levitation engines of Aetherion Atmosphere-class vessels.

Trivia

  • Helium was first detected in the spectrum of a star before it was found on any world, earning it the epithet “Stellar Breath.”
  • Psionic engineers note its resonance dampens astral noise—a rare quality among noble gases.
