Kroetar
The Kroetar are ancient, indestructible gateways created by the First-Flames during the early Organization of Yedistren. Scattered across planets and moons throughout Yedistren, these monolithic structures serve as instantaneous teleportation arches connecting worlds and systems across the galaxy. They are silent relics of a bygone eon, yet remain one of the most astonishing and enduring marvels of Lethurèan design.
Origins
The First-Flames crafted every Kroetar. No later civilization, not even the First Valorèin Dynasty, has been able to duplicate their construction. The secrets of their creation remain wholly lost, though the Kroetar themselves are impervious to decay or destruction. Only a Sherok Solar Forge, deep within a Star (Lethurèa), could hypothetically unmake one.
Physical Design
Every Kroetar is identical in design:
- A towering arch of smooth black-gold alloy, resistant to all known forces.
- Symbols inscribed along the inner rim correspond to spatial coordinates and activation pathways.
- The arch activates when approached by beings with a natural connection to Din or the Mother and Father's divine order.
The portals stand as unmovable monuments, some situated in bustling cities, others in long-forgotten wastelands where civilizations have faded into dust.
Usage and Function
Kroetar can only be activated by select races attuned to Din and the spiritual flow of the Universal Order:
- Valorèin
- Sherok
- Haavolin
- Free Species aligned with Din
Species heavily dependent on synthetic technology and disconnected from Din, such as Tèran or Tekarin, are incapable of activating Kroetar on their own.
The portals allow:
- Instantaneous transport for mortals and immortals across planetary and interstellar distances.
- Spirits may travel through already active Kroetar but cannot activate them themselves.
Guardianship and Abandonment
Kroetar are generally left alone as silent and inert architecture. Only strategically critical Kroetar are guarded, such as the gateway near the First Valorèin Royal Palace, used to deploy the First Valorèin Military Headquarters across Yedistren. Most remain unattended and dormant, simply awaiting the rare footsteps of those capable of awakening them.
Variants and Limitations
Kroetar do not vary in physical design or construction. Only the coordinate symbols differ. There are no known "heretical" copies, though the Malisik have attempted to mimic them in the form of Malisik Circles for communion with Malis, but these are crude, impermanent mockeries.
Cultural Importance
Kroetar are revered as relics of divinity and cosmic harmony. They are respected even by those who cannot use them, seen as tangible proof of the divine touch of the First-Flames.
Trivia
- The oldest known Kroetar still in use is the gateway encased within the ruins of the First Sherok Citadel.
- The Kroetar system forms the backbone of interplanetary travel for many advanced Free Species cultures.
- They remain impervious to all known weapons, energy, magic, and even Malisik tampering.
