Overview

Acetalyne (ethyne) is a volatile hydrocarbon gas consisting of two carbon atoms linked by a triple bond. In the Continuum Universes, it forms spontaneously in organic decay regions and is a key energy carrier in combustion-heavy biospheres such as Carboniforous worlds. Its sharp, ozone-sweet odor betrays its instability — a molecule always eager to break and reform.

Properties

The triple bond grants Acetalyne high reactivity and intense combustion energy. When exposed to psionic excitation fields, it can transmute into photochemical chains that resonate with Terpene Vapor structures.

Notes

  • Used industrially as a precursor to divine polymers and combustion catalysts.
  • Forms explosive peroxides when contaminated with O₂ or NO₂.
