The Sacred Circles are divine constructs found across Yedistren in Lethurèa. They serve as direct conduits to It'slémwé, acting as hallowed locations where mortals and immortals alike may commune with the Mother, Father, Lethurèa, the deceased, and even the Naa’ôna.
Origins and Creation
Sacred Circles were forged by the First-Flames under decree from the Mother to allow communication with her mortal children. Constructed from the pure, radiant Ore of It'slémwé, they create a stable channel of the Light of It'slémwé into Yedistren.
Structure and Appearance
Sacred Circles appear as perfectly circular platforms embedded into a planet’s surface. Though they appear to be made of light, they are solidified Ore of It’slémwé. Pillars of light erupt from the platform’s center, extending into the upper atmosphere and beyond, connecting with nearby stars through non-linear metaphysical channels.
Purpose and Function
The Sacred Circles act as:
- Anchors of divine presence within Yedistren
- Meeting places where spirits may exist and commune without dying or needing to passing into Cities in the Stars
- Testing grounds to determine if a mortal is worthy to receive an Element of It’slémwé
- Centers for communion, vision quests, spiritual healing, and even Transcendence
Access and Eligibility
Entry is restricted:
- Only those chosen prior to birth or by a Hero and Heroine or Deity may enter
- Valorèin afflicted with The Curse must first be Bonded
- Entry causes the physical body to convert into pure light; unworthy mortals will immediately Transcend
Mortals often test their worth by pushing on the Pillar of Light and seeing if they pass through.
The Ritual of Receiving
A Naa’ôna descends, raises their hand to the sky, and summons the chosen Elements of It’slémwé into an orb of radiant light. They then turn their palm to face the chosen individual. The orb strikes them in the chest and merges with the chosen mortal’s spirit.
Cultural Role
- All Hallowed Worlds have a Sacred Circles
- Sherok Citadels were often constructed to protect them
- Certain cultures journey across and between planets using Kroetar to reach these holy sites
- Ritual pilgrimages, prayers, and petitions to the Mother and Father occur here
Properties and Limitations
- Sacred Circles cannot be defiled or destroyed by any force, including Malisik
- The surroundings may be corrupted, but the Circle remains a beacon of divine purity
- Malisik will often build horrid monuments and shrines in mockery of the Mother and Father
- The first Sacred Circle was integrated into the First Sherok Citadel
Myths and Misuses
- Malisik constructed false Malisik Circles to imitate the function of Sacred Circles for dark communion with Malis. These fakes are unstable and impermanent.
Sensations of Entry
Mortals describe entry as:
- Shock followed by euphoria
- Weakness at first, then growing strength in the presence of Light of It’slémwé
- The sense of having returned home
- Deep sorrow at the thought of departing again
Miscellaneous Lore
- Sacred Circles are not sentient
- Hero and Heroine (Lethurèa) and Deity (Lethurèa) may bring multiple followers in extremely rare cases
- Naa’ôna appear clothed in woven condensed light; mortals are temporarily unclothed as their bodies become light
