Overview

Oxygen is the vital diatomic element responsible for aerobic metabolism across most biospheres of the Continuum. It is the principal reactive component in TerraLike and PermianLike atmospheres, and a trace constituent even in psionic environments such as Aetherion and Lucidmist Atmosphere.

Properties

Oxygen exhibits strong oxidizing behavior, forming compounds with nearly all known elements. Its reactivity enables both combustion and respiration, the twin engines of organic life and technological civilization. At high psionic densities, it can form *energized oxions*, which glow faintly blue and serve as catalysts for spirit conduction.

Uses and Occurrences

Used industrially for refining metals, sustaining life in closed environments, and fueling divine plasma reactors. Psionically refined oxygen is required to stabilize Essence Vapor and divine respiration fields.

Trivia

  • In early divine script, the symbol for oxygen was used to represent the “spark of awakening.”
  • Oxygen snow is occasionally harvested on cryogenic moons for holy rites of renewal.
