Upon their ascension to immortality, they were cured of this madness but retained an insatiable curiosity about the greater cosmoses. It was during this vulnerable state that they heard the whisperings of Lusiel, who had been imprisoned in Outer Darkness. These dark influences led the Deviants to seek a means of breaching the barriers between universes, ultimately creating The Contradiction and inadvertently releasing Lusiel into the multiverse.
